Ultrasound Scanning

Ultrasound Scanning for Foot and Ankle Pain and Injuries

Here at Eclipse Foot Clinic, we use the latest technology to help us get you pain free as quickly as possible. That’s why our MSK Lead Podiatrist Edd uses ultrasound scanning to aid in assessment of your foot and ankle pain. As a fully qualified Sonographer, Edd has extensive experience of using this equipment in daily practice.

What can ultrasound be used for?

There are many reasons why using imaging may be helpful in addressing foot and ankle problems. As the foot and ankle is such a complex area, our history taking and clinical assessment is very important to understand what may be causing your pain. By adding in some dynamic imaging in the form of ultrasound scanning, we can look at individual areas of anatomy and isolate specific points of injury to help tell how serious that injury is. This helps us stage your injury and initiate the most appropriate treatment to get you better in the shortest time possible.

Here’s a quick 1 minute video to show some of the ways that we use ultrasound scanning at Eclipse Foot Clinic:

Who could benefit from a Biomechanics Assessment and ultrasound scan?

  • Runners and sportsmen and women with a niggling or chronic injury
  • Anyone with general foot or ankle pain

So what next?

If you are interested in having an assessment and ultrasound scan, the first step is to have a Biomechanics Assessment. This appointment may include:

  • A Gait Analysis
  • An Ultrasound Scan (with Edd Henstridge)
  • An orthopaedic-based assessment
  • Strength and functional testing
  • Exercise prescription
  • Footwear advice

It will ultimately lead to a Treatment Plan that will address your current concerns or injuries, tailored specifically for you.
